How to: log a trip manually in the app

If you forget to track a trip or need to edit an auto-tracked trip by creating a new trip, you’ll want to log the trip manually as soon as possible.
You can also manually add previous trips from before you joined Driversnote to complete your logbook.

In this guide, we will show you how to add a trip in the app:

  1. Tap the plus sign + and select Create a manual trip
  2. Enter your start location. Here, you can either search for a name or street and choose from a list of suggested locations, or choose from one of your custom Saved Locations
  3. Enter your stop location. Again you can search and choose from a list of suggested locations, or choose from one of your custom Saved Locations
  4. The app will select one or more routes for you, depending on options available. These trips will be shown on the same map with the option to switch between them by tapping on the map route or the route details:

Note: If you have traveled this route regularly, you may be given one familiar route from your previous saved trips. If you need a different route you can tap on Use Google suggestions to see other options for the trip.

  1. From this screen, you can also select the Settings "cog wheel":

    Settings cog

This gives new options for what road features you would like to avoid with your chosen routes:

Activating any of these choices will remove routes that use those options.

  1. Waypoints. By tapping the Edit option next to the route selection, you can zoom in and set a waypoint for your journey. This allows you to customise the manual route further. Once you have added a waypoint, select Continue, or you can select Edit to change it.

Note: You will need to zoom in very closely to set the waypoint.

  2. Date & Time: If you need to edit the time of your trip (e.g. a trip you look yesterday or in the morning), you can do it here by tapping on the date and time under your start address. You can scroll the date further back to get to previous years.

The app will automatically set an end time based on your start time.

  3. Select either Business or Personal depending on the purpose of the trip
  4. If you have multiple workplaces and/or vehicles, select the correct one
  5. Optional: Write a note
  6. Tap Done (in top left corner)

Create a return trip in the app

You can easily create a return trip manually.

  1. Under Trips, scroll to the date you wish you add a return trip
  2. Under the latest trip, there is a + sign
  3. Tap the + sign. We will pre-fill the start location with the end location of the previous trip
  4. Enter your stop location using the options as above
  5. Review and classify
  6. Tap Done (in the top left corner)

Create a multi-stop trip in the app

For tax-compliant logbooks, you will need to log each “leg” of a trip separately. It is not possible to log multi-stop trips as a single trip with Driversnote. If you have made one trip with multiple stops, you will need to log each “leg” of the trip separately. Add a relevant note to each trip (to show that it was all the same trip).

Tip: Add a relevant note to each trip (to show that it was all the same trip).
