How to: use the Edit Log

What is the Edit Log used for?

The Edit Log helps you create audit-ready reports by keeping track of changes made to your trips.

When enabled, it adds an appendix to your PDF report listing:

  • Any trip edits made after the trip was created
  • Deleted trips
  • Odometer readings (if you’ve chosen to include them)

This extra record ensures your mileage log stays accurate, transparent, and compliant with tax regulations, especially in compliance sensitive countries, where edit tracking is required.

Note: If you are on a Driversnote team (as administrator or member), you have access to these reporting options also, but it will work slightly differently. Please see our article on How to: change settings for teams reporting.

Tip: When you report to tax, we recommend also enabling Hide personal trip details. Private trip details aren’t required for tax reporting, and this option helps protect your privacy.

Enabling the Edit Log in the app or website

You can enable or disable the Edit Log any time in your report settings.

In the app:

  1. Open the app and go to Settings > Report details
  2. Scroll to Edit Log
  3. Tap to toggle it on or off
  4. Tap Save

On the website:

  1. Log in at driversnote.com
  2. Go to Settings > Report details
  3. Find Edit Log and check or uncheck the box
  4. Click Save

What information appears in the Edit Log appendix?

When you generate a PDF report with the Edit Log enabled, the appendix will show:

  • All trip changes made more than 24 hours after the trip was created
  • Odometer readings, if “Show odometer” is enabled
  • Deleted trips simplified to show only necessary compliance details

If you’ve turned on Show times on report, any time edits will appear too.

How does the Edit Log protect my privacy?

We protect your privacy,  so the Edit Log censors edits to your private trips:

  • Edits to private trips are not displayed in the log
  • For users with multiple workplaces, edits from other workplaces or tags may appear censored
  • Details on deleted trips are censored to the strictly relevant information needed in case of an audit
  • Only essential data needed for compliance is displayed

Staying compliant with timely reporting

Unlike some apps that lock edits after specific time periods, Driversnote lets you stay flexible.

But for compliance, it’s important to review and edit your trips timely after driving.

The Edit Log helps by marking how long after the trip each change was made, for example:

“+3 days” means the trip was edited three days later.

This gives you (and auditors) an easy overview of your reporting accuracy.

Common questions

Q: Will my personal trips appear in the Edit Log?

No, edits to personal trips are never included in the log.

Q: Can I disable the Edit Log?

Yes. Just go to Settings > Report details > Edit Log and toggle it off.

Q: Why can’t I see the Edit Log on the report?

The edit log is only visible on pdf exports of reports. If you cannot find it on the pdf, make sure to enable Edit Log under settings and create a new report for the same period. In pdf exports of the new report, the appendix should appear.
