Tracking Configuration & Settings Requirements
We want to provide you with the best mileage tracking experience and in order to do that we need to make sure that your phone is set up to track your trips accurately.
The Tracking Configuration settings page will help you set up and keep your phone settings "healthy" and ensure that your trips are tracked accurately. A red Tracking Configuration indicator means that the Driversnote app requires some adjustments in your phone settings.
Do you see this on your screen? No worries, let’s help! Start by tapping on the red bar, and you’ll be brought to the Tracking Configuration settings page with the next steps
You can always check if your phone settings are configured correctly:
- Open the Driversnote app
- Tap Settings > Tracking Configuration
Tip
Settings that are required for tracking and auto-tracking (iBeacon / motion detection) with Driversnote might revert to their default when either the phone’s software is updated, an app is not used very often, or an app is deleted and reinstalled. We recommend you open the app on your phone to check your trips weekly and ensure that Driversnote is set up correctly.

iPhone Settings Requirements
You will find all settings below and be able to edit them by opening up your phone's settings > scroll until you find Driversnote > Here, you will see all the current permissions and be able to edit them.
(1) Location
Set Location permission to "Always". This will allow the app to: track your trips consistently, receive GPS coordinates when you open another app or when your screen is locked, and log the total distance of your trips.
Driversnote does not
⚠️ want to know where you are at all times and does not record location data unless you are driving
⚠️ does not share / sell any of your personal information - all your data, including your trip data, belongs to you and you alone

(2) Enable Precise Location
With Precise Location enabled, the app receives precise GPS coordinates and tracks trips which reflect the route you took.
(3) Motion & Fitness
Allowing access to this will improve overall tracking performance, andhelp conserve battery when not moving. Read more on Why does Driversnote need access Motion & Fitness
If you cannot see the option for Motion & Fitness you may need to enable it another part of Settings. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Motion & Fitness and turn on the option for “Fitness Tracking” there, then try to enable it again in the original Driversnote Settings menu. If it still does not work there, please contact us at support@driversnote.com
(4) Background App Refresh
With Background App Refresh enabled, the app keeps tracking your trip once your phone is locked, and keeps tracking your trip when you are using another app
If the Background App Refresh switch is unavailable, then you will need to disable Low Power Mode and then toggle the Background App Refresh ON. Please also make sure you have given permission to this setting.
You can double-check this in your phone's settings > General > Background App Refresh > Make sure it is turned on and enabled for Driversnote App.
(5) Disable Low Power Mode
With Low Power mode turned off, the app tracks your trips when your phone is locked or when you are using another app. To turn it off:
- Go to your phone settings
- Select "Battery"
- Deactivate "Low Power Mode"
It can sometimes be unavoidable for your phone to go to Low Power mode (such as when your battery gets very low).
If this happens, make sure after you charge the phone that Driversnote is running again, as the phone will often shut down the app in this situation. It’s a simple fix – just manually open the app again!
Android Settings Requirements
You will find all settings below and be able to edit them by opening up your phone's Settings -> Apps -> scroll until you find Driversnote > here you will see all the current permissions and be able to edit them. Most of these options are listed under Permissions in that option.
(1) Location Permission "All the time"
This will allow the app to, track your trips consistently, receive GPS coordinates when you open another app or when your screen is locked, and log the total distance of your trips
(2) Enable Precise Location (for Android 12 & higher)
Found on the same screen as the Location permission, this helps the app receive precise GPS coordinates, and tracks trips which reflect the route you took
Driversnote does not want to know where you are at all times and does not record location data unless you are driving
We do not share / sell any of your personal information - all your data, including your trip data, belongs to you and you alone

(3) Physical Activity (also known as "Body Sensor")
This will improve overall tracking performance and help conserve battery when not moving

(4) Battery Saving settings
Disable Battery Saving settings (also known as “Battery Optimization,” “Doze,” “(Deep) Sleeping Apps”).
Unfortunately, these settings terminate background apps, including fitness apps and mileage tracking apps such as Driversnote. This results in coordinate gaps and even missed trips. These settings vary quite a bit over the different Android devices. To learn more, please visit Battery Optimization Troubleshooting for Android devices.
(5) Battery Saver
With Battery Saver (also known as Power Saving Mode) turned off, the app tracks your trips when your phone is locked or when you are using another app. To turn it off:
- Go to your phone settings
- Select "Battery" > "Battery Saver"
- Make sure that "Use Battery Saver" is disabled
Auto-tracking with the iBeacon Settings Requirements
If you're using the iBeacon there is more setting in addtion to those outlined above. Without Bluetooth permission, the app is not able to track your trips with the iBeacon.
To enable Bluetooth permission on the iPhone
- Open phone's settings
- Scroll and find Driversnote
- Enable Bluetooth permission
This will enable the Driversnote app to connect to your iBeacon device and track your trips. Read more on How to set up your iBeacon
Once the iBeacon is connected in the app, you will need to continue to have the general Bluetooth enabled every time you drive. You will find Bluetooth in the Command Center as above or under Settings > Bluetooth.
To enable Bluetooth permission on your Android
- Bluetooth will be under Settings -> Connections
This will enable the Driversnote app to connect to your iBeacon device and track your trips. Read more on How to set up your iBeacon
